Better Chinese offers a series of curriculum designed to teach a child how to read, write, understand, and speak Mandarin Chinese.  They offer My First Chinese Words (preschool-lower elementary), My First Chinese Reader (elementary), Discovering Chinese (middle school to high school), and Magical Tour of China (advanced middle school to high school).  Beginners can start in any series except for Magical Tour of China.  Read more about it on the Better Chinese website.

Comment: I have used My First Chinese Reader and My First Chinese Words. Pros: Online resources (additional cost) to go along with curriculum. Helped my kids learn to read and speak. Colorful pages Loved the little tear-off character cards that came in the back of the workbook for My First Chinese Reader. Cons: No instruction on pinyin or tones Cost Designed to be used (taught) by a native speaker. Using the English teacher's manual was a necessity.  3.4/5
